Up from the Grave He Arose!
The resurrection of Jesus is a unique, unprecedented event in history. So much so that the stakes surrounding the implications for the whole of human, terrestrial and celestial life are huge.
The historical evidence is there. It is well attested. The conspiracy theories, the theories of delusion and hallucination, the theories that the first disciples were so ‘faithful’ that they swallowed and propagated a ‘drinking the cool-aid’ story of a risen Christ of faith that is not connected to the dead Jesus of history do not hold up to a rigorous quest for truth.
An intellectually honest, fair minded, unbiased inquiry into history will find that the evidence of the resurrection of Jesus Christ is more than compelling. It attests to a unique event in human history that is of the greatest significance.
It is so significant with such high stakes that few people find the courage to rigorously pursue the truth because in their heart of hearts they do not want to surrender to the Creator. They want to continue their own corporately and individually self-serving stories with which they are comfortable and that serve their own purposes.
I came to Jesus kicking and screaming for my autonomy. However, in the end I surrendered because I could not refuse the resurrection as history and remain intellectually honest with myself or others. The resurrection means that while we cannot see Jesus, we can encounter Him because He is alive. He is not dead.
